PRECIOUS METAL GUIDE
What is Gold Vermeil?
Quality Durability Hypoallergenic Anti-tarnish Ethically Made ♡
Gold vermeil is the highest quality jewellery you can buy that isn't solid gold.
Gold vermeil, pronounced ver-may, is a form of gold plating to the highest standard in order to bring you a premium product at very reasonable prices.
The best value after solid gold
Quality
Gold Vermeil is regulated and must be made using only precious metals, silver and gold. A minimum base of 925 sterling silver must be used and therefore each piece MUST be stamped 925, ensuring the piece does not have a hidden base of cheaper metals, such as brass or nickel. The plating process is also held to a high standard and can only be made with a minimum of 10ct gold.
Here at Trou.vay, our Gold Vermeil pieces are made with 18ct gold for its beautiful qualities of high and bright shine.

~ Our TROU·VAY 14ct gold plated pieces are of a higher quality than standard gold plating. They are made using only precious metals, with a base of 925 sterling silver and stamped 925.
Durability
Microns are the measurement used when electro-plating the 925 sterling silver piece in gold. The minimum requirement for Gold Vermeil around the globe is 2.5 microns thick and can not be any less. (Canada is the only exception where the minimum is 1 micron, so watch out for Canadian pieces!).
Gold Vermeil has a much thicker coating than gold plating, which can start from 0.01 or 0.05 microns, therefore fading very easily in comparison.
Vermeil plating is the highest quality and will last a lot longer, giving you the greatest value for money with the look and feel of solid gold.

Anti-tarnish Properties
Our Gold Vermeil pieces are coated with a thick layer of 18ct gold, giving them superior anti-tarnish properties that won't fade easily. As Gold Vermeil is made from 925 sterling silver, the natural properties in silver will always tend to tarnish over time. This naturally occuring process does not mean poor quality and is easily cleaned away using a polishing cloth. However, due to Gold Vermeil's thick plating procedure it will not fade or tarnish as easily, giving you a solid gold look and feel.
Experience luxury that lasts with our Gold Vermeil.

Gold Vermeil vs Gold Plating
To summarise, here is a quick snap shot at the differences between gold vermeil and gold plated jewellery.
No! Gold vermeil is a much thicker coating of mostly higher grade gold than gold plating.
Yes! Gold vermeil is a higher quality in both carrat gold content and thickness measured in microns. Therefore gold vermeil will always last longer than gold plating.
Yes! Here at TROU·VAY we have selected most of our ranges in 18ct Gold Vermeil and a small selection in 14ct Gold Plating for your choice.
Here at TROU·VAY we believe in transparency. All our plated jewellery is made using only precious metals, with a base of 925 Stirling Silver and no hidden cheap materials. This means both our gold vermeil and gold plated ranges are of a high quality and stamped 925. We have indicated via the product descriptions whether the pieces are 18ct Gold Vermeil or 14ct Gold Plated.
*Note: Other gold plated jewellery brands in the market may not be stamped 925 as they haven't met the requirements to do so. Instead, they have used cheaper base metals.
Even though gold plated jewellery can be made using precious metals, stamped 925 and usually a cheaper price point, Gold Vermeil is a much thicker layer of gold and is the best quality after solid gold. Your Gold Vermeil jewellery is a piece of art that is precious and will last you a lot longer.
With the right care your precious metal jewellery will last years on end
What is 925 Sterling Silver?
One of the most prominent precious metals
Made of 92.5% pure silver (hence the name) and 7.5% other metals (as pure silver is far too soft) it is commonly used in jewellery making due to its strength, durability, and resistance to tarnish. All genuine 925 sterling silver pieces are hallmarked with the numbers "925" to mark their authenticity.
Silver is a high quality precious metal that lasts a lifetime. Although prone to tarnishing over time, the beauty of sterling silver is it can easily be polished clean time and time again.
All of our 18ct gold vermail and 14ct gold plate jewellery has a base metal of 925 sterling silver, giving the jewellery its quality and longevity. With its durability, hypoallergenic properties and anti-tarnish wonders.

Precious metal jewellery is a work of art, treat them with the love and care they deserve
If stored safely your precious metal jewellery will remain as originally purchased for many years to come
Store your TROU·VAY jewellery seperated in its pouch to prevent scratching and to avoid reactions from other types of metals. Keep in a cool, dry environment away from heat and direct sunlight, such as your dresser drawer or a jewellery box.
For best practice and longevity keep your jewellery away from long periods of moisture. This includes removing them in the shower, when swimming or washing dishes. It's important to ensure your jewellery is completely dry when storing them.
Apply your body creams and purfumes well before wearing any of your pieces. Especially avoid contact with chlorine, bleach or ammonia-based products (usually found in cleaning sprays) as they can cause damage to the metal.
Silver and gold polishing clothes can be used to remove tarnish. Gently polish any gold plated or vermeil pieces without rubbing too vigorously, where as pure 925 sterling silver pieces can be rubbed vigorously as they do not contain plating.
We hope you enjoy wearing your new found treasures
